Welcome to the Dahlia Society of Georgia

We are located in the great city of Atlanta with members in the city, surrounding suburbs, other areas of Georgia, and other states.

Please browse through our pages. Look at the pictures of beautiful dahlias on our originations page. If you would like to learn how to grow beautiful dahlias in the South, check out our membership page. Also, visit our Dahlias That Grow Well in the South page for a listing of heat tolerant dahlias and a growing guide for southern dahlia gardens.

We have two tuber sales in the Spring, so pull up our calendar to see when they will take place and come join us to purchase quality tubers that will take the heat in the South.

Monthly meetings are held in the Turner Theater in the Garden Entrance Building. Location of the Spring Tuber Sales are still TBD and will appear on our calendar page and newsletter when determined. While the ABG is closed on Mondays each week, it is open on the third Monday evening of each month for the Dahlia Society meeting. If you would like directions to the garden, go to our links page and click on their website. A locator map is below. Enjoy!

About Us

The Dahlia Society of Georgia was organized on May 14, 1934 and has been meeting continuously since that time.

The purpose of the Society is to stimulate interest in Dahlias; to encourage the novice and amateur; and to assist the grower in keeping a high standard in varieties that are best suited to this locality.

We fulfill this purpose by having monthly meetings that provide culture information to our members. We also have a monthly newsletter that keeps our members up to date on happenings within the Society and with some of those “trade secrets” for growing dahlias in the heat. We have two tuber sales each Spring so members and non-members alike have access to quality tubers at affordable prices. These tubers will grow well in the heat of the Atlanta area and most can be purchased at much lower prices than those sold commercially. The sales are held at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

We also have an annual mini show at our August meeting which is geared to the novice grower and those that don't exhibit their dahlias in the annual show. The purpose of this show is to allow these growers the opportunity to display their blooms in an environment without the competition and pressure of the annual show.

We have an annual picnic at one of our member homes or a garden location which is always one of the highlights of the year. We are affiliated with the Southern States Dahlia Conference and the American Dahlia Society
