While there are no strict rules for growing dahlias in the South, these techniques can help you achieve stunning results, even in hot, humid climates:

Choose Heat-Tolerant Tubers
Not all dahlias thrive in Southern heat, so it’s essential to select heat-tolerant varieties. These dahlias will bloom in cooler September temperatures, and while the summer heat and humidity can affect some varieties’ color and form, heat-tolerant types will perform better in the long run.

Watering
During hot spells, especially when temperatures exceed 90°F, dahlias will need more frequent watering. When they are blooming, regular watering is crucial to maintain their growth and beauty.
- Short bursts of watering in the afternoon (especially with a hose) can cool off your plants and provide much-needed moisture.
- A soaker or dripper hose is ideal for consistent, efficient watering—just turn it on for short periods, a couple of times a day.
Mulching
